I was born in Wels (Upper Austria) on February 14th, 1964. At the age of 6 I started to play the piano. I took piano lessons at the country school of music Laakirchen under Walter Mitterhuemer from 10 to 18.

At the age of 18 I moved to Vienna where I started studying classic oboe under Prof. Alfred Hertel at the "music conservatory of the city of Vienna". I switched over to saxophone three years later. In 1986 I started to study at the Jazz department of the "Franz Schubert conservatory". This was the moment when I decided to live my life as a professional Jazz saxophonist.

In 1987 I founded my first successful project, the group "Vienna jazz formation". We toured across Austria and Europe and recorded 1 LP and 2 CDs during this time. Many projects in which I performed as band leader followed: Jazzmobile, Freiflug, Exbird’s, FreeArtEnsemble, Flat 5 element (1 CD -- Shao), Hannes Meixner Quartet ... ... ... ....

A very important experience in my musical life was working with young handicapped people very intensively from 1996 to 2000. This experience still has a strong influence on my work and has proved invaluable for my career as a musician.

From 2000 to 2003 I travelled to Bangkok (Thailand) several times where I had the chance to perform with national and international musicians, e.g. Randy Cannon Trio, USA; Manop Varonitipas Band, TH, in numerous clubs throughout the city.

In 2004 I founded the group "Flat 5 Element" together with my brother Harald. Intensive concert activities in 2007 with "Flat 5 Element" resulted in the recording of the CD "Shao".

Since 2007 I have been intensifying my work with students. In addition to that I keep working very hard on my own musical development (a never ending story :)).
